Most of the problems that show up in the first years of a metal roof or facade trace back to decisions taken (or skipped) at the design stage: insufficient pitches, undersized expansion joints, trim details settled only on site. A well-prepared zinc and copper roofing project anticipates these issues and turns the build into a predictable process, with no costly rework.
At ZincArt we offer specialist technical consulting on zinc and copper cladding for architects, engineers, contractors, project managers and private clients - from the preliminary study through to on-site supervision.
Initial technical analysis
Every project starts with a technical analysis of the context: site visit, dimensional survey, review of existing plans and sections (or of the architectural intent in the study phase) and identification of the critical points. We check the structural substrate, the solar orientation, the exposure to wind and prevailing rain, the proximity to the sea (which affects material life) and the interaction with other disciplines.
In refurbishment work this survey is particularly important: we measure existing profiles, record historic trims to be preserved and identify pre-existing pathologies to address before the new work.
Detailed quote in 24-48h
After the initial analysis, we deliver a detailed quote within 24 to 48 hours for standard projects, or within an agreed timeframe for more complex ones. The document breaks down measured areas (m² for cladding, linear metres for gutters and flashings), the proposed material with brand, gauge and finish, the construction system (standing seam, interlocking panel, soldering), separate fabrication and installation costs, estimated timelines and warranty conditions - ten years on watertightness and installation for standard projects. This transparency lets the client compare proposals on the same terms.
Construction detailing
Construction detailing is the heart of the service. We draw the construction details for the sensitive points of the cladding, at the right scale (1:5, 1:2 or 1:1): expansion joints, trims against walls, transitions between planes of different pitch, connections to chimneys and skylights, meeting with window frames, integration with drainage.
The drawings include sections, plans and partial elevations, with sheet gauges, seam direction, fold dimensions and fixing systems. For more demanding geometry - curved (camarinha) roofs, facades with irregular module sizing - we produce three-dimensional models that anticipate clashes with other disciplines.
On-site technical support
Our on-site support runs through the entire build. The technical team makes periodic visits to verify compliance, answer the installation crew's questions and resolve issues that only show up on site. Each visit is documented with a written record and photographs. When the installation is carried out by an external crew, this supervision works as a quality guarantee - particularly relevant on copper work and standing-seam roofs, where precision is critical.
Schedule and time management
Coordination with the other disciplines is what makes demanding deadlines achievable. We prepare schedules that flag the critical dependencies - structure, waterproofing membrane, stonework, window frames - and, on large projects, we propose phasing by zones. The schedule also factors in favourable weather windows: soldering and standing-seam work should not be done on wet sheet.
Compliance with standards
All the materials we install are supplied by leading European mills (VMZINC, elZinc, RHEINZINK) and comply with European standard EN 988, which sets the chemical composition and mechanical properties of zinc for construction. Compliance with this standard is the technical basis that secures the documented longevity of the material and its compatibility with current construction systems. Citing EN 988 in a specification is a simple way to make sure the project will not receive products of variable quality; for public projects or other tendered works, we can provide technical data sheets and declarations of conformity. For architects and engineers
For the B2B channel, the consultancy can be commissioned as a stand-alone service, with no obligation to award the works afterwards. We offer design support at the preliminary-study stage, libraries of construction details in editable format, technical specifications for tender documents, budget estimates at the planning stage, joint visits to reference projects and physical material samples. The intent is to support the designer in working confidently with zinc and copper - materials that allow great formal freedom but demand specific technical knowledge for a durable result.

For private clients
When the work is commissioned directly by a private owner without a design team, our service includes the support normally provided by the architect: we explain the options in plain language, show comparable visual examples, help to choose between finishes based on the expected result at five, ten and twenty years and point out the necessary administrative permissions (prior notice, municipal licensing, historic-zone rules). The goal is for the client to understand exactly what they are commissioning, with no surprises mid-project.
