Why a zinc or copper cap
The mouth of the chimney is one of the most exposed points on the roof: extreme thermal swings, direct rain, constant wind and direct contact with combustion gases. A properly sized cap, in zinc or copper, shields the flue outlet from the weather and gives the chimney a clean, durable finish, unlike painted-sheet caps that tend to warp and rust within the first few years.
Formats we make
We make caps in several formats: square, rectangular, conical or with a side drip edge, always matched to the original chimney design. In refurbishment of older buildings, we replicate the historic profile whenever the client wants to preserve the original reading of the roof.
Apron flashings
The set includes the apron flashings linking the base of the cap to the roof covering. This transition area is responsible for a significant share of the infiltrations on older roofs and we build it with standing-seam or tin-lead soldering depending on the project detail. Without proper aprons, even the best cap fails.
Replacement on existing buildings
We replace end-of-life caps on existing buildings, removing the old one, checking the condition of the chimney crown stonework and fabricating the new one from the on-site dimensional survey. Free technical visit for assessment.
